Locos took a point from their opening game of 2026 against Wick Academy. It was a scrappy game with few chances, with neither side doing enough for a win.
With Mark Souter and Paul Coutts unavailable and several players still missing through injury, Dean Donaldson fielded a young side, particularly in defence.
On a difficult pitch, neither team was able to find any rhythm or fluency. The home team, playing down the Harmsworth Park hill, got the ball into the box on a number of occasions but Locos’ back line was on hand to protect Kyle Irvine in goal.
Locos best opportunity of the first half came when Josh Bolton was released through the middle of the park but a heavy first touch allowed Lewis Gallagher to block his effort. At the break, it was evident that if either team could get to grips with the surface they would be in a good position to secure three points.
Unfortunately, the pattern of play continued into the second half and it began to feel as if we were destined for a stalemate. Irvine produced a good save from close range when it looked like Marc McGregor would break the deadlock. At the other end, substitutes Daniel Agnew and Ethan Cairns both had half chances but neither could test the goalkeeper.
This game wasn’t much of a spectacle but Wick is never an easy place to get a result, and after a run of defeats, Locos will be pleased with a point and clean sheet away from home.
Locos have no match next week and will be back in action at the end of the month when Nairn County visit Harlaw Park.
