Locos fell to a goal in each half at Dudgeon Park as their winless run against the champions continues. With Jay Halliday and Nathan Meres both unavailable after being forced off in midweek, a young Locos team were playing into the strong wind in the first half.
Both teams took time to get used to the conditions but the hosts began to make the most of the wind assistance. Locos were defending well though. Shane Sutherland had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring when he picked up a back pass having not got back from a previous foray forward. Conner Douglas stood up well though and Sutherland fired well off target.
The reprieve was short lived as the breakthrough came from a free kick that looked a little soft. There could be no complaints about the strike though, as Jordan Macrae fired into the top corner from 25 yards.
Sutherland had an immediate opportunity to double the lead but Max Foster was on hand to block.
The Railwaymen were still very much in the game at the break and would have been hoping to use the conditions to their advantage in the second half. Unfortunately, the Cattachs doubled their lead just a few minutes into the half, with Connor Bunce finishing off a crisp passing move.
Locos responded well and Rory Butchart did well on the left, beating two defenders to get into the box, but his shot was too high.
With the wind at their back, Locos began to dominate but couldn’t get the goal they craved. Robert Ward’s back post header was saved by Cameron Mackay but Mark Souter came closest to scoring, with an effort from distance that clipped the crossbar.
This was another disappointing result but Dean Donaldson won’t be too despondent as his team kept themselves in the game throughout, but were lacking that bit of quality and composure needed to get something from what was always going to be a very tough fixture.
