Locos left it late to secure victory at The Haughs. Two almost identical Mark Souter goals, lifting the ball over goalkeeper Cameron Reid, turned the game Locos way in the closing stages. It looked like it was going to be a frustrating afternoon as Locos failed to make their dominance count, particular in the first half when young Reid made a number of saves.
With Paul Coutts unavailable, Thomas Reid came into the starting lineup on a bright spring afternoon. The game started slowly but after Jay Halliday and Daniel Agnew had each pulled efforts wide from outside the box, chances began to fall for Locos, who were getting joy with balls over the top of the home defence. Josh Bolton was denied twice by Reid, before Murray Cormack headed into the ground and against the bar for the hosts. Agnew was then off target again before Turriff took the lead against the run of play. Milosz Ochmanski stuck a leg out to block Mackenzie Taylor’s ball across the box but could only divert past Zack Ellis.
Shortly before the break Reid again denied Agnew as Locos looked to hit back. The start of the second half was a more even affair, although it was the Railwaymen who continued to carry the greatest threat. Calum Dingwall shot straight at Bell and Aidan Wilson fired just over the crossbar.
Locos kept going and we’re rewarded when Souter levelled, finishing off the underside of the bar after Wilson had nodded the ball into his path. The winner was an even more accomplished finish from Callum Duncan’s excellent pass forward.
The victory was merited but for a long period, it looked like Locos unbeaten run would be coming to an end. This result means Locos still have an outside chance of finishing the season in third place, although they would be reliant on other results. All the Railwaymen can do is focus on securing another 3 points in the final game of the season against Wick at Harlaw Park next week.
