Locos secured a second victory on the road in the space of four days on Speyside. Goals from Callum Duncan and Myles Gaffney secured the points but there will be frustration that they weren’t able to kick on and press home their superiority.
Home goalkeeper Steve Martin had already saved twice from Gaffney when Duncan opened the scoring on 17 minutes, slotting home after Jay Halliday cut the ball back from the left. The Railwaymen immediately went looking for a second, Cole Anderson firing over the bar before Martin saved superbly from a Logan Johnstone effort that looked destined for the top corner.
Duncan went close again before the second goal came on the cusp of half time. Halliday was involved again, feeding Nathan Meres who picked out Gaffney in the penalty area who applied a first time finish with his left foot. There was optimism among fans at the break that Locos could go on and score more but the Jags proved resistant and there was nearly an hour on the clock before Martin was tested again, parrying another Johnstone drive.
The hosts were growing into the game and Ross Logan’s effort was deflected wide. Owen Loveland then found himself in a good position at the resulting corner but could only over the bar. Martin raced out of his goal to block a Gaffney strike but Meres was unable to capitalise when the ball fell to him, his shot drifting wide of the unguarded goal.
Jack Davison curled an effort just off target as Strathspey kept plugging away but it was not until the final minute that Blessing Oluyemi was called into action, getting down well to keep out Ian Ross’s low strike.
Locos were comfortable and will be delighted with another away win and a clean sheet. However, having got themselves into a strong position at half time, they couldn’t find the rhythm needed after the break to add to the scoring.
Locos now face a run of home fixtures, welcoming Forres Mechanics to Harlaw Park next Saturday.
