Locos secured a much needed win at Grant Park thanks to first half goals from Jay Halliday and Max Foster. There may be disappointment that they couldn’t add to the scoreline after the break but this was the perfect filip at the end of a difficult week.
Mark Souter came back into the team and there were starting berths for Blair Smith and Daniel Agnew. Jack McKenzie also started the game following the succesful appeal of his red card against Turriff United. Locos settled the quickest and took the lead after a quarter of an hour, Halliday rifling a loose ball high into the net.
Locos began to dominate and a second goal seemed inevitable, eventually coming 8 minutes from the break. Paul Coutts slipped a free kick down the left to Daniel Agnew who got to the by-line before putting in a perfectly flighted cross for Foster to head home his second goal in as many games. After the break the Railwaymen continued to hold the upper hand. Stuart Knight got down well to save from McKenzie before Agnew and Souter both went close. At the other end, Liam Harvey pulled a shot just wide.
Late substitute Kacper Bednarowski forced Knight into two good saves and Souter’s header was cleared from the line as Locos threatened a third in the closing stages. Despite being unable to breach the home defence in the second half, Dean Donaldson will be delighted with 3 points and a clean sheet. On a dry pitch which both teams struggled with at times, this wasn’t a classic match but both Locos and the Coasters went into this game desperate for a win, so how pretty it was will be the least of Locos’ concerns.
Locos will now look to take the confidence from this win into next Saturday’s meeting with Keith at Harlaw Park to build some positive momentum.
