Callum Duncan’s first half strike was enough to secure victory at Grant Park. Locos had opportunities to extend their lead after the break but found Lossiemouth keeper Cameron Farquhar in inspired form.
The Railwaymen made the brighter start and had the first effort on 11 minutes with Sam Robertson linking well with Liam Morrison before dragging his shot wide of the post.
The breakthrough came on 17 minutes when Duncan latched onto a loose ball, carrying it into the area before lifting it over Farquhar. Duncan had a similar opportunity five minutes later but on this occasion the keeper was out quickly to block.
The Coasters then began to get into the game. Brandon Hutcheson fed Ross Morrison down the right but his dangerous low cross was cleared by Mark Souter. Just after the break an slip by Souter presented an opportunity for Dylan Lawrence but Zack Ellis saved his powerful effort. Ellis then turned a Lawrence free kick behind.
Locos’ pace was a constant threat and they pushed for a second but Farquhar was on form to deny Duncan again and Logan Johnstone and Nathan Meres. Nathan Meres and Myles Gaffney – both on as substitutes having been rested from the starting line up – came closest to adding to the scoreline. Meres raced through on goal but couldn’t beat Farquhar who rushed to the edge of his area before the keeper kept out Gaffney’s flashing drive.
Just a goal behind, the hosts were never out of it and worked hard but weren’t able to trouble Ellis further. Despite the best efforts of both teams on an increasingly difficult surface, another goal didn’t come and the Locos left with the points.
The was another strong performance from a much changed Locos side and but for Farquhar would have been a more convincing margin of victory. Locos travel again on Saturday as we head to Grantown to take on Strathspey Thistle.
