Locos secured their biggest win of the season with a clinical performance against Deveronvale. Three goals in each half ensured the Railwaymen extended their winning run to four games. Despite the scoreline, Vale were no pushovers and kept themselves in the game until a quick fire double took the game beyond them.
Dean Donaldson named the same team that had been so impressive in beating Lossiemouth last week. After the crowd were introduced to special guest triple World Indoor Bowls Champion Jason Banks, Locos were first to threaten as Paul Coutts’ corner caused problems for the visiting defence but they were able to clear. Daniel Agnew then forced a save from Sean McIntosh before Milosz Ochmanski opened the scoring on 20 minutes. The Cove Rangers loanee met Cole Anderson’s cross from the right to volley high into the net.
Much to the frustration of the Friday night crowd, the lead lasted just 4 minutes as Jack Mitchell fired low past Zack Ellis from the edge of the penalty area, having been fed by Ben Hermiston.
As Locos looked to rebuild momentum, they regained the lead in spectacular fashion. Calum Dingwall’s free kick from wide on the left evaded McIntosh to find the top corner.
Locos were playing with confidence and extended their advantage seven minutes before the break from the penalty spot. Anderson made an excellent run down the left and cut into the area before being clipped by Jayden Goldie. Coutts stepped up to calmly put the spot kick away.
At 3-1, Locos had a firm control of the game but the next goal was going to be pivotal. McIntosh once again kept out an Agnew effort early in the second half before Goldie fired narrowly wide shortly before the hour mark.
Dingwall went close with another free kick, the keeper gratefully clutching the ball after it glanced off the wall. When the goal did come, it went Locos’ way and was followed up almost immediately with another. Callum Duncan, who had only been on the pitch a couple of minutes, latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area before finishing with the aid of a deflection with his first touch of the ball. McIntosh then tipped Aidan Wilson’s drive onto the bar and behind for a corner. Coutts’ delivery went in at the near post. Initially it was thought there was a touch from Mark Souter but the goal was awarded to the corner taker for his second of the evening.
With the points in the bag, Locos looked for more goals and the sixth came four minutes from full-time. Ryan Park, another substitute, received a pass from Josh Bolton, taking a touch before finishing low past McIntosh from 15 yards to bag his first goal for the club.
This was another good display from Locos and Donaldson was pleased with his players, and the ruthlessness they showed. “I was pleased with the performance. I thought the boys played some good stuff and we scored some good goals, which is pleasing. Their attitude and work rate was spot on” the gaffer said. “We’ve played as well and not got the goals, so it’s just one of those nights where everything has clicked for us.”
Locos will be looking to keep their winning streak going when Keith visit Harlaw Park next Saturday.
