Milosz Ochmanski scored the only goal of the game to extend Locos winning run by beating Brechin City. The result was fully merited in front of good crowd at Harlaw Park.
Dean Donaldson made just one change from the last outing against Strathspey, bringing Ochmanski into the starting lineup at the expense of Daniel Agnew. After an energetic start from the visitors, Locos worked their way into the game and looked comfortable against a Brechin side who had got the upper hand in the title race by beating rivals Brora Rangers at the weekend.
Ewan Loudon’s effort from distance was held by Zack Ellis before Callum Duncan, playing in a more advanced role than of late, got on the end of a Paul Coutts pass but Lenny Wilson was quickly out to block. Ellis was then called into action again as he saved excellently at point blank range when Fraser MacLeod got on the end of Marc Scott’s knock down.
The winning goal came half an hour into the game. The ball was delivered into the box by Coutts from the left and, when the Hedgemen failed to clear, Ochmanski pounced to score his third goal of the season. The Railwaymen continued to look the better side in the run up to the break.
Shortly after the restart, Dayle Robertson took aim from just inside the penalty area but again Ellis pulled off a top save to maintain his side’s slender advantage. Brechin continued to see plenty of the ball but Locos defended superbly and chances were at a premium. City did get the ball in the net through Robertson, but the whistle had already gone for foul on Jay Halliday.
It was by no means one way traffic though, as Locos looked for a second goal to give themselves some breathing space. Halliday had a couple of shots well blocked, and they had some very threatening breaks, but Wilson was well protected by his defence.
As City desperately looked for a route back into the game, they peppered the box but Locos’ defence held firm to claim just their second Breedon Highland League victory over Brechin since they joined the league.
This was an enthralling game, played in a fantastic atmosphere under the lights. There wasn’t a lot between the teams but Locos fully deserved their victory, further evidence of the progress made this season. This is certainly the biggest scalp in Locos nine game winning streak but they’ll face another tough test on Saturday when Fraserburgh visit Harlaw Park.
