First half goals from Blair Smith and Lloyd Robertson secured a comfortable victory for Locos at Christie Park. The hosts weren’t without their moments in the game but the Railwaymen will feel they could have scored more goals.
With Cole Anderson picking up a knee injury last week, Daniel Agnew started in his place as the only change to Dean Donaldson’s side. The breakthrough came after five minutes when good play down the left between Daniel Agnew and Josh Bolton saw the later cut back for Smith to fire home from six yards.
Locos continued to have the better of the game but they were grateful to Zack Ellis when he pulled off a fine stop to deny Lewis Crosbie halfway through the first half. A second goal at the other end seemed inevitable though, and it looked like it would arrive through Bolton, who turned Robertson’s flick goalwards, bringing a good save from Brodie. When the ball fell back at the feet of the striker, Alex Thoirs got something behind the ball to block his shot on the line.
The goal did come just a couple of minutes later and Bolton was once again the provider. He controlled Callum Duncan’s ball in the penalty area before finding Robertson who beat a defender before sliding home. On the verge of half time, Agnew came close to adding a third but Brodie got down well to keep out his shot.
Locos continued to threaten in the early stages of the second half, with Brodie alert to deny Jay Halliday before Michael Clark gratefully cleared the danger. Huntly then enjoyed a spell of pressure around the hour mark and Zack Ellis was called into action again to parry an Owen Morris drive, before Mark Souter was on hand to block a goalbound effort from Cameron Heslop. A string of corners followed for the hosts but they weren’t able to breach the Locos defence. Aidan Wilson headed narrowly wide and Brodie turned a Paul Coutts free kick around the post as Locos saw the game out to return to winning ways.
This was another good performance from Locos, particularly in the first half where they made their dominance count. The second period was a more even affair but the result was never really in doubt. Locos unbeaten run now sits at 11 games, with just two fixtures remaining this season, the first being a trip to Turriff next Saturday.
