FORMARTINE UNITED FIXTURE ABANDONED

Locos final match of 2023 was abandoned at half-time following floodlight failure at North Lodge Park with the scores level.

Locos had taken a 6th minute lead. Myles Gaffney timed his run perfectly to get on the end of Jay Halliday’s through ball to finish left footed past Ewan MacDonald. He immediately hobbled off though, having been caught late as he opened the scoring.

With the wind at their back, the hosts began to see plenty of the ball but Blessing Oluyemi was largely protected by his defence. In fact it was Locos who looked more of a threat. Cole Anderson’s dangerous ball across the box just evaded his teammates and the former Formartine player hit the bar with a fantastic effort before Julian Wade levelled from close range to set up an intriguing second half.

It all proved to be academic. The floodlights had gone out mid-way through the first half. Most were swiftly restored but one could not be and a temporary alternative was put in place during half time. The referee wasn’t happy with the replacement though, eventually calling a halt to proceedings before the second half got underway.

There was consternation around the ground, particularly from visiting players, fans and officials who sensed a real opportunity to take maximum points, particularly with the advantage of an increasing wind.

The game will now be rescheduled.
