Supporters gathered at Harlaw Park on Monday to hear from Head of Football Operations Scott Buchan, Manager Dean Donaldson and Assistant Manager Greg Moir, who shared an honest assessment of where the team stands and where it’s headed.

Scott Buchan opened by praising the club’s youth teams — especially the Under-21s, who had won all four of their league fixtures at the time (now five, after beating Keith).
Injury Struggles and Squad Transitions
Dean acknowledged the team’s slow start to the season, putting much of it down to major injuries. Early doubts over Zack Ellis’ availability were quickly followed by losses of key players like Jay Halliday, Lloyd Robertson, captain Greg Mitchell and Cole Anderson.
He stressed that Greg’s leadership and Cole’s quality have been sorely missed, particularly in a young squad lacking natural on-pitch talkers — something fans may have noticed as Dean’s own voice has been more audible lately.
Dean admitted frustration at how performances often fade in the second half of games, noting that mistakes have come from both young and experienced players.
Youth-Focused Future
From the start, the plan was always to transition toward a younger squad, though that was delayed due to the presence of top senior players like Paul Coutts — whom Dean still regards as the best player in the Highland League.
Now, with injuries forcing change, Dean believes it’s the right time to go all-in on developing youth. Young players will feature heavily moving forward, including new arrival Milosz Ochmanski, whom the coaching staff rate highly but point out that he is still only 19. Opposition managers have also commented on the energy and quality of Locos’ young players.
Dean is open to adding a central midfielder, striker and left-sided centre-back — but only if they fit the club’s long-term plan and don’t hinder youth progression. He also reminded fans that 16 players have moved on since he took charge — part of an ongoing squad transition.
Tactical Shift
Dean explained that previous systems were designed to maximise Paul Coutts’ influence, such as playing three at the back. With an eye on the future core of the team, he is now switching to a system better suited to the emerging young group — with full buy-in from the players.
