Locos came away with a point from a game which they will feel should have yielded more. Having come from behind to take the lead in the second half, the Railwaymen were pegged back with neither team able to find a winner.
At a blustery Grant Street Park, Locos were struggling to get out of their own half in the opening stages and fell behind in the fifth minute when Rorie Macleod headed home unchallenged from a corner. The goal kick-started Locos though, and they began to dominate, causing the hosts a lot of problems in wide areas.
After Callum Duncan had almost latched onto the ball six yards out, Cole Anderson levelled. Daniel Agnew was found on the right by Mark Souter and he got to the by-line before cutting back for Anderson to fire low across Logan Ross in the Lilywhites goal.
Locos continued to threaten. Ross got down well to a Duncan shot from outside the box before Andrew Macrae could count himself lucky to receive only a yellow card following a high, late challenge on Anderson. Anderson and Agnew came close to giving Locos the lead as Clach struggled to make an impact at the other end but the teams went in level at half time.
Dean Donaldson was forced into a change 5 minutes into the second half as Ryan Park, who was providing a handful for the home defence, was shoved into the barrier, injuring his knee and hands as the sound of the impact could be heard around the ground. Five minutes later, Locos took the lead from the penalty spot. Anderson was brought down by Jacob Kerr after his surging run took him into the area and Paul Coutts calmly slotted home the spot kick.
It was no more than Locos deserved at that point and those fans that had made the trip to Inverness would have been hoping that they may go on to add more goals. That wasn’t to be though, as Clach got back on level terms on the hour mark. Locos will again be disappointed that the corner had been conceded at all, and that was compounded when Craig Lawrie’s wind assisted kick sailed over everyone and into the net
The game then became very open as both teams looked for a winner. Clachnacuddin’s Scott Davidson fired just over and Aidan Wilson went close, but the closest to a finding a winner was Davidson again, who clipped the bar with a free kick.
This was an entertaining game in difficult conditions. A draw at an in-form Clach is not a poor result for Locos, but they will feel the goals they conceded were soft and that this was a missed opportunity. Locos face another tough test next week when Banks o’ Dee visit Harlaw Park for our final game of 2024.
